The work “Local communities and the cultural question” by Abderrazak Ouarda was presented Thursday to the Chamber of Advisors, during a meeting which took place in the presence of cultural and political figures.
Organized by the Foundation for Social Works of Chamber Staff, this meeting sheds light on this work which deals with the challenges linked to the integration of culture at the heart of local development, based on the experience of managing the cultural thing at the level of the Maârif-Casablanca commune during two consecutive mandates (1983-1992) and (1992-1997). The 155-page book documents the various cultural activities and events organized by the municipality of Maârif, either on its own or in collaboration with various institutions and associations in the cultural sector, over a period of at least two decades.
This work is made available to local elected officials and researchers interested in cultural issues. In a statement to MAP on this occasion, the author stressed that his work draws attention to the low interest that local authorities give to cultural affairs, although this is an integral part of their skills, just as it highlights the efforts of the municipality of Maârif to promote cultural action for twenty years. The work documents the cultural experience of this local authority between 1983 and 2003, a period during which great importance was given to the cultural sector, including cinematographic activities, intellectual meetings and theatrical and artistic shows, said Mr. Ouarda.
