Burkinabe music is in mourning. Adjaratou Sanon, known as Adji, died on the night of Tuesday December 24, 2024, following double cancer of the breast and mediastinum.

The iconic singer leaves behind a rich musical heritage and a career marked by her poignant tribute to her ex-companion, the late Black So Man, who dedicated the famous song Adji to her. Adji became known after the death of Black So Man in March 2002, by launching an album where she mixed covers of her songs and personal compositions. This opus, a real success, propelled his career on the Burkinabe music scene.

His unique style, according to Lefaso.net, harmoniously mixed the traditional sounds of Burkina Faso, such as Waraba, Wiré and Gourmatchéma, with the modern rhythms of coupé-décalé. A musical signature that has made it essential. Over the course of her career, Adji has released seven albums, the latest of which, Under the Wing of Faith, in January 2024, in which she expressed her gratitude to God. A work that resonates today as a spiritual testament.

Adji’s disappearance leaves a big void in the Burkinabé cultural landscape. Now, as Black So Man sang, “Get out where Adji is!” » is no longer relevant. She joined her musical and life companion, leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of her admirers.
