Christmas evening could have turned into a nightmare. He was narrowly avoided thanks to the reflexes of a young eight-year-old child. On the night of December 25 to 26, shortly before one in the morning, a fire broke out in a home in the town of Douville, in Dordogne, along the national road 6021 in the town. In the house, the whole family, made up of six people including four children, is asleep.

But one of the siblings, aged eight, woken up by the flames, warned the rest of his family that a fire was in progress and spreading throughout the 300 square meter house.

When the firefighters arrived, the whole family was outside after having managed to get out on their own. All are safe and sound. The results could have been dramatic. “When we arrived, the house was on fire,” indicate the firefighters. Finally, the fire was brought under control using three fire hoses, including a ladder. Only 80 square meters were able to be preserved. The roof of the house, for its part, is completely charred.

According to information from France Bleu Périgord, solidarity is being organized in the town of Douville. A call for donations would have been launched to help the families of the victims, notably by collecting clothes for the children in a grocery store in the town.

For the moment, the origin of the fire remains undetermined, according to the gendarmes. Fortunately, and probably thanks to the responsiveness of the young eight-year-old child, no casualties were reported. The two adults and four children were unhurt and were able to be rehoused by the town hall.
