The national Syli of Guinea suffers a new setback in its quest to qualify for the next African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025. The Confederation of African Football (CAF), through its disciplinary jury, rejected the reservation filed by the Guinean Football Federation (FGF) following the defeat against Tanzania on the last day of the qualifiers.
The request, although deemed admissible in form, was declared “ill-founded” in substance, according to the verdict communicated this Thursday by the CAF. The FGF had denounced an administrative irregularity concerning Tanzanian defender Muhamed Ibrahim Ame, who allegedly played with a jersey number not listed on the official match sheet. This situation had raised hopes of a victory on the green carpet, which could have allowed Guinea to qualify to the detriment of the Taifa Stars.
Despite this unfavorable decision, the FGF does not intend to give up. In an official press release, she announced that she had contacted the disciplinary jury to obtain detailed reasons for the decision. The federation also plans to appeal in accordance with articles 54 to 58 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. CAN 2025, which will be played in Ivory Coast, is moving away to Guinea, but the procedures initiated could still hold surprises in the weeks to come.
