An innovative refrigerator that revolutionizes cooling with Peltier technology, ensuring efficient energy use with an AI algorithm, better food preservation and more interior space.
Samsung Electronics today announced that it will showcase its new refrigerators equipped with AI Hybrid Cooling technology at CES® 2025, with launch planned in various global markets this year. These models incorporate an AI approach that combines modern cooling methods with the varied needs of contemporary homes.
“Since refrigerators operate continuously, we made sure to develop a cooling system that improves energy efficiency for users,” said Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of Research & Development of the Home Appliances Division at Samsung Electronics. “With the global launch of AI Hybrid Cooling technology, we are affirming our commitment to innovation in home appliances. We will continue to introduce solutions that make everyday life easier for consumers.”
Energy optimization thanks to adaptive hybrid cooling
AI Hybrid Cooling technology combines a highly efficient compressor with a Peltier module, a semiconductor device for cooling using the temperature change generated by electric current. The integration of this module allows the refrigerator to operate as a hybrid vehicle, using two energy sources only when necessary for optimal cooling.
For example, if high cooling demands are detected (when many items are added at once, hot foods are stored, or during hot periods), the refrigerator activates the Peltier module and compressor simultaneously. On the other hand, during normal use, it relies solely on the compressor to guarantee maximum efficiency. The AI algorithm continuously evaluates the internal condition of the refrigerator and anticipates temperature fluctuations to adjust the cooling mode as needed.
Extended storage thanks to precise temperature control
With AI Hybrid Cooling technology, the freshness of perishable foods is enhanced with the Hybrid Precise Cooling feature, which minimizes internal temperature variations, even during automatic defrost cycles. By using residual heat from the Peltier module during defrosting, the model reduces excessive temperature fluctuations, thereby preserving food quality. Studies show that when Hybrid Precise Cooling mode is in operation, fresh foods such as pork and salmon can stay fresh up to 1.4 and 1.2 times longer respectively.
More storage space for everyday use
Refrigerators with AI Hybrid Cooling technology redefine the use of space with a capacity of 900 liters, while maintaining the usual external dimensions. By replacing the conventional heating elements with a Peltier module, the interior space is better exploited, resulting in a gain of 25 liters of capacity. This allows for 60mm deeper shelves and a 13.8% enlarged loading area, capable of accommodating up to 240 drinks cans — 24 more than traditional models.
A significant step forward for domestic cooling
With AI Hybrid Cooling technology, Samsung demonstrates its commitment to merging intelligent technologies, energy efficiency and user-centered design. This innovative refrigerator, which will be launched at CES 2025, is poised to transform modern daily life and pave the way for new home automation solutions integrating AI.
