The UDC denounces a “treaty of submission”
The Democratic Union of the Center believes that “the Federal Council of 2024 wants to deliver Switzerland to the EU in crisis”. For the party, the package of agreements will bring more immigration. In her eyes, it will also lead to an automatic takeover of EU law and bureaucracy, which according to her means “the annihilation of direct democracy”.
The SVP also opposes the payment of hundreds of millions of francs to the EU in return for access to the EU internal market.
“This treaty is undemocratic, untrustworthy and unacceptable,” summarizes the UDC, which spoke before the Federal Council did the same. “Today, the fight for freedom begins,” announces the country's leading party, in reference to the upcoming parades in front of Parliament and the people.
The PS wants to maintain public services
The Socialist Party “welcomes the important step” represented by the conclusion of negotiations with the EU, while underlining the responsibility of the Federal Council, called again to present in detail “a balanced package”. The PS expects in particular that salary protection will be ensured.
The party therefore expresses a positive opinion, while warning that a final judgment can only be made once “the overall package has been put together”.
The PS says it is concerned, for example, by the fact that the Federal Council has not yet announced a solution to protect wages and maintain public services (rail transport, electricity). He asks the government to quickly provide transparency.

“The Federal Council has obtained more”, rejoices the PLR
“The result (of the negotiations with the EU) is significantly better than in previous attempts,” rejoiced the Liberal-Radical Party on Friday. In 2021, the breakdown of negotiations was “justified”. Today, “the Federal Council has obtained more”.
Among the strengths of these agreements, the party believes, for example, that the safeguard clause has been improved. Enough to better manage immigration.
The PLR also expresses reservations. “There are advantages and disadvantages. Prudence is the mother of safety. Careful reading of the agreements is essential,” he writes. He further warns the unions by indicating that he will not accept attacks on the liberal nature of the labor market.
The Center will analyze the file in detail
The Center considers that the result of the Switzerland – EU negotiations constitutes “clear progress” compared to the 2018 framework agreement. It will analyze it in detail before taking a position in the consultation procedure.
The Center welcomes “the personal commitment of the President of the Confederation Viola Amherd” in these negotiations, which enabled the Federal Council “to obtain improvements in important areas” compared to 2018. Guarantees could be negotiated in in terms of salary protection, for example.
Greens demand guaranteed wage protection
The agreement is excellent news, since it takes Switzerland and the EU out of the impasse which is gradually deteriorating the bilateral path, declared Lisa Mazzone, president of the Swiss Greens. Environmentalists are now waiting for the Federal Council to make proposals to guarantee wage protection in Swiss law.
The principle of “same pay for the same work in the same place” must be guaranteed. The Federal Council will have to make proposals to “guarantee at least the current level of protection, even if certain bosses put their feet to the wall”, underline the environmentalists in a press release on Friday.
