Former Sparta Rotterdam player Mathias Pogba has been found guilty of organized extortion against his brother Paul Pogba. He was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended.
It was today that we learned of the verdict of the Paris criminal court concerning the Paul Pogba case, detained for hours in an apartment in Montévrain, near Paris, in 2022.
Two armed men demanded thirteen million euros from the French footballer, already the victim of blackmail by various members of his entourage in previous years. The verdict did not spare the guilty.
Former Sparta Rotterdam player Mathias Pogba has been found guilty of organized extortion against his brother, Paul. He was sentenced to three years in prison, two years of which were suspended. A sentence that he can serve under house arrest, with an electronic bracelet. Without a club since his departure from ASM Belfort following this affair, in 2022, the 34-year-old former striker was also fined €20,000.
A total of six people were convicted in this case. And if, at first, justice demanded an equal sentence for everyone, some found themselves better off than others. It was Roushdane K., one of the suspects, who was sentenced to the most severe sentence: eight years in prison, a fine of €197,000 and compensation of €50,000 to be paid to Paul Pogba.
This affair has, once again, highlighted the danger of organized crime in the world of sport. For Paul Pogba, it was a new part of his very tumultuous period, marked by several extra-sporting problems. Suspended for doping until March 10, 2025, the 2018 World champion is currently without a club.
