With the final whistle on matchday six, the curtain closes on the single round of the Conference League. Fiorentina’s draw at Vitoria Guimaraes allows Palladino’s team to secure a direct place in the round of 16 of the competition thanks to third place. But what are the next stages of the tournament? From the draw to the pairings, let’s discover them together.

Many teams, numerous scenarios. A review of the rules therefore never hurts. Today in Nyon, at 1pm, the playoff draw will take place. Meanwhile, the top eight teams in the mini-league standings directly access the Conference League knockout phase. The clubs in 9th to 24th place will take to the field for the playoffs. Teams ranked from 25th place onwards are eliminated from the competition.

But how will the pairings be established? It is important to remember that teams ranked 9th through 16th will be seeded, while teams 17th through 24th will be unseeded. Since it is a tennis scoreboard, the matches will be decided by pairs. The draw will begin by considering the unseeded teams in 23rd and 24th position. The first team drawn will be on the left side of the board, the other on the right side. So on for all the unseeded pairs. The same mechanism will be applied for the seedings, starting from the clubs in 15th and 16th position. The playoffs will therefore be made up like this:
- Gent/Copenaghen vs Real Betis/Heidenheim;
- Molde/TSC Backa Topola vs Jagiellonia/Shamrock Rovers;
- Celje/Omonia vs Apoel Nicosia/Paphos;
- Vikingur Reykjavik/Borac Banja Luka vs Panathinaikos/Olimpija Ljubljana.
- Copenaghen/Ghent vs Heidenheim/Real Betis;
- TSC Backa Topola/Molde vs Shamrock Rovers/Jagiellonia;
- Omonia/Celje vs Pafos/Apoel Nicosia;
- Borac Banja Luka/Vikingur Reykjavik vs Olimpija Lubiana/Panathinaikos;

After understanding the pairings for the playoffs, all that remains is to find out the dates on which the Conference League playoffs will take place. The clubs will return to the field on 13 February 2025 for the first leg match, while the return match is scheduled for 20 February 2025. The top seeds will play the second leg at home. The winners of the playoffs will face the top eight teams in the single group. And even in that case the scoreboard will be drawn considering the couples.

Fiorentina, the possible opponents

With the draw achieved in Guimaraes thanks to Mandragora’s goal, Fiorentina secured a ticket to enter the top eight teams of the single group of the Conference League. Thus, Palladino’s team directly reached the round of 16 of the competition. So who will be the possible opponents? In the round of 16, Fiorentina could face a team between Vikingur Reykjavik, Borac Banja Luka, Olimpia Ljubljana and Panathinaikos. The Viola’s side of the draw will be revealed with the draw to be held in February.
