The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch chaired, Thursday, December 19, 2024 in Essaouira, in the presence of Mr. André Azoulay, Advisor to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the signing ceremony of an agreement for recovery and development of the “Mogador” tourist resort, involving an investment of 2.3 billion dirhams, which constitutes an important initiative in strengthening the role of tourism as a lever for development socio-economic of the Kingdom, in application of the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI, may God help him.
This agreement was signed with a consortium of tourism leaders from the Middle East, including MM. Naguib Sawiris, Hussain Al Nowais and Hossam El Shaer, renowned investors who have committed to making 50% of investments in the “Mogador” station by the year 2030.
The Mogador Station project, which is of strategic importance for the local and national economy, aims to increase accommodation capacity to 3,700 beds, an increase of 35% compared to the current capacity of the city of Essaouira . It will also allow the creation of 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The project includes the extension of the Sofitel Mogador hotel, the creation of three seaside hotels, a Club Med, a Beach Club, a leisure village, as well as a golf course . A diversification which reinforces the attractiveness of Essaouira in the tourist offer of board sports and cultural tourism.
In a speech on this occasion, the Head of Government stressed that this project will contribute to establishing Morocco’s position as a leading tourist destination, with regard to the economic and social dynamics that it can generate in the tourism sector, particularly in the city of Essaouira. In this regard, he recalled the call of HM King Mohammed VI, may God help him, to make the Atlantic coast of the Kingdom a space of human communication, economic complementarity and continental and international influence.
Aziz Akhannouch emphasized the interest that the government places in encouraging investments in the tourism sector, as well as in other sectors which contribute to value chains and the creation of employment opportunities, specifying that the government provides investors with a range of tools and mechanisms for the optimal implementation of their projects.
This ambitious project located in the heart of the city of Essaouira, symbol of cultural diversity and universal heritage, is part of a global vision of tourism development in Morocco, combining strategic investments, job creation and promotion of cultural heritage and natural of the Kingdom.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms. Nadia Fettah, the Minister of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Ms. Fatim Zahra Ammor, the Minister of Investment, took part in this ceremony. of Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mr. Karim Zidane, the Governor of the Province of Essaouira, Mr. Adil El Maliki, the Director General of SMIT, Mr. Imad Barrakad, the President of the Municipal Council of Essaouira, Mr. Tarik Othmani, as well as several personalities and senior officials, particularly from the banking sector.
