Representatives of Zambia, Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) agreed, during a high-level meeting in Lusaka, on the broad outlines of a joint road map for the development of television channels. values bringing together the three countries, we learned on Monday from the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
Representatives from these countries met last week in the Zambian capital for the jointly organized High-Level Political Dialogue on the Development of Regional Automotive and Electric Mobility Value Chains. by the ECA Offices in North Africa and Southern Africa.
Senior officials and private sector representatives from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe, who were also participating in the high-level dialogue, identified opportunities to expand the production of automotive components, as part of their existing capacities, and to strengthen their presence in regional automotive value chains.
At the end of the work, the participants agreed on the need to integrate the project partnership framework into the national public policies and sectoral plans of their respective countries, with a view to ensuring alignment with the priorities of national development. They also recommended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2025 and the inclusion of Morocco in the Zambia-DRC Special Economic Zone.
The ECA will support these interventions, through the finalization of the Roadmap, the implementation plan and the partnership framework, with a view to submitting them to member countries for validation, the same source specifies. It will also be responsible for producing strategic studies, facilitating exchanges between the various stakeholders concerned and supporting the capacity building of SMEs in the automotive sector.
Organized following a three-day workshop under the theme “Development of the regional electric mobility value chain (DRC – Morocco – Zambia)”, the High-Level Policy Dialogue brought together representatives of governments, the sector private sector, experts and representatives of development organizations from eight countries.
The meeting aimed to study the strategic priorities for the development of regional value chains (RVC) in the automobile and electric mobility (e-mobility) sectors, assess the potential in terms of partnerships and refine the regulatory frameworks to create a favorable environment for their development.
