Abdellatif Akhrif was buried this Friday, December 13, 2024 in his hometown of Tangier, in the presence of members of his family, friends and loved ones.
The deceased, who died in the prime of life, was born on February 1, 2000 in Tangier. A city that he cherished so much and that he always carried in his heart.
A tragic death
As a reminder, five members of the IRT, including Akhrif, left the M’Diq Marina on the afternoon of Saturday July 6 aboard a small rental yacht, to head out to sea, away from the marina and the beach by several kilometers. They then jumped into the water to swim, leaving the yacht with no one on board to pilot it.
The strong winds blowing in this area of the Strait had caused him to move away from the swimming spot, forcing the 5 people to try to swim back to him, unfortunately without success.
Akhrif had been reported missing before his body washed up across the border. What followed were five long months of waiting and anguish for the loved ones of the player who died at the age of 24.
Finally, the remains were returned Thursday evening to the Moroccan authorities, at the Zouj Bghal border post.
