Marsa Maroc signed a financing agreement of 690 million dirhams (65 million euros) with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), intended for the expansion of capacities and the optimization of operations in multipurpose terminals at the ports of Casablanca and Jorf Lasfar, the company announced on Friday.

The agreement signed between Marsa Maroc and the EBRD concerns financing of 690 million dirhams (65 million euros), intended for the expansion of capacities and the optimization of operations in the multipurpose terminals of the ports of Casablanca and by Jorf Lasfar, the company announced Friday.

Signed by Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the EBRD, and Tarik El Aroussi, Managing Director of Marsa Maroc, this financing concerns infrastructure projects aimed at expanding the capacities of multipurpose terminals and acquiring electric cranes on rails as well as hybrid cranes, intended to improve port equipment.

Initiatives which will make it possible to strengthen the sustainability of port installations, in particular through the acquisition and operation of more efficient electric cranes.

National leader in port operations in Morocco, Marsa Maroc manages several terminals in the main ports of Morocco, including those of Casablanca and Tanger Med.

The objective of this financing is to increase processing capacity while improving energy efficiency through a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per cargo handled.

Furthermore, the civil engineering works at the Jorf Lasfar multipurpose terminal will integrate climate resilience measures, particularly in the design of the quays, in order to limit their vulnerability to rising sea levels.

On this occasion, Tarik El Aroussi stressed that this financing will allow Marsa Maroc to improve the attractiveness of its terminals and offer sustainable facilities with greater capacity, thus contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of Moroccan trade.
