• Monday December 9 – Medical transport: angry, ambulance drivers and taxi drivers from Reunion take action

While no longer has a government but the public deficit continues to widen, among the State’s ways of making savings is the prices of medical transport. A budget cut planned to come into force through a Health Insurance convention in January 2025 but which is not passed on to professionals. Contracted taxis and ambulances from Reunion Island have therefore decided to mobilize on Monday, December 9, 2024 in front of the CGSS of Saint-Denis.

• Tuesday December 10 – Pharmacy: over-the-counter sales prohibited for eight dangerous cold medications

French health authorities are making it compulsory from Wednesday to present a prescription at a pharmacy to receive eight famous anti-cold treatments widely considered dangerous. According to health authorities, they can cause serious side effects such as strokes and heart attacks. Actifed, Dolirhume, humex, Nurofen, Rhinadvil, Ibuprofen are notably concerned.

• Wednesday December 11 – Le Tampon: a pedestrian died after a collision with a car

During the night of Tuesday 10 to Wednesday 11 December 2024, a man died in the town of Le Tampon. The pedestrian was the victim of an accident with a light vehicle on the RN3. Due to this tragedy, the road was closed at 3:25 a.m. at the 17th km point, to allow emergency services to intervene. It was reopened at 4:05 a.m., informs the Regional Traffic Management Center.

• Thursday December 12 – Chido became an intense tropical cyclone, Mayotte on cyclone pre-alert

This Thursday, December 12, 2024, the tropical cyclone, which has become intense, continues on a westward trajectory while maintaining its intensity. This Wednesday, Chido passed over Agalega with winds estimated at nearly 250km/h. Over the next 12 hours, the system may continue to intensify. In the longer term, Chido should pass nearly 100km north of the northern tip of Madagascar on Friday evening and of Mayotte on Saturday during the day. Concerning Mayotte, the prefect placed the department on cyclone pre-alert this Wednesday, December 11.

• Friday December 13 – Chido: Mayotte on orange alert at 7 a.m., schools closed

At 4 a.m. this Friday, December 13, 2024, intense cyclone Chido was 680 km from Mayotte. It is moving west at 20 km/h. The archipelago has been on orange alert since 7 a.m. (8 a.m. in Reunion) this Friday. All schools will remain closed. Chido should pass closer to land on Saturday. A sharp deterioration in weather conditions is expected from Friday night to Saturday. The prefect of Mayotte does not rule out the triggering of the red alert. The archipelago has not experienced such a cyclonic threat since 1984.
