The cold returning? “With the brutal cooling expected at the end of the week, snow is expected in abundance on all our massifs. Snow could even temporarily appear in the plains at the start of next week, in the form of showers in the north-east/central-east,” announces The Weather Channel.
“New cold snap” and risk of snow in the plains
“A change in weather is looming ahead of the weekend across the country. A maritime north polar flow will bring down temperatures with the return of abundant snow in the mountains,” wrote the specialist media this Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Météo France also announces a drop in temperatures from Monday December 9, 2024 with risk of snowfall in the plains of the Rhône department and around the metropolitan area of Lyon.
Risk of snowfall from Saturday
Météo France forecasts indicate a clear drop in temperatures with wintry conditions from the end of the weekend. On Saturday, it will still be 11 to 12°C over a good part of the Rhône department, then only 2 to 7°C on Sunday afternoon and 2 to 6°C on Monday.
The first snowfalls are possible this Saturday or Sunday morning in the south of the Rhône. Snowfall is also feared in the afternoon in the east on the Loire / Rhône border.
Snow should be more present Monday morning in the Trades and Beaujeau sectors in Beaujolais, in the east and in the southwest. Sectors which could also be affected in the evening and then at night. However, the Lyon metropolis should not be affected by snow.
Snow possible for much of next week
Météo France announces possible snowfall on Tuesday all day in the areas of Tarare, Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise, Thizy, Trades and Beaujeu.
A trend which can still continue on Wednesday December 11 then Thursday.
Snow next Thursday in Lyon?
For the Lyon metropolitan area, snow could fall on Thursday December 12 in the afternoon as well as over a good southern half of the Rhône department.
On Thursday evening, snow could spread to almost the entire department with temperatures of -1/0°C in the areas concerned. Rain could replace snow in the Lyon metropolis.
The snow confidence index in Lyon on Thursday is 3/5 according to Météo France.
High quality snow in the Alps
In the Alps, the snow may turn white even in the large valleys between Sunday and Monday. At an altitude of 1,800 m, 1 m of snow could fall, and 1.50 m at 2,000 m, according to La Chaîne Météo.
“This episode could persist throughout next week with a slow easing of the cold and showers at the end of the week,” adds the media.
