The Ministry of the Interior wants to put an end to anarchy in the sector of taxis in Morocco. The circular sent by Abdelouafi Laftit to walis and governors aims to regulate a sector plagued by various dysfunctions, including non-compliance with working conditions, the illegal practice of unset prices, and refusal of service in certain situations.
Indeed, the circular insists on the need to make public the prix and use counters in accordance with regulations, to ensure transparency and fairness. Monitoring of prices and meters will be reinforced to avoid any illegal increase in prices.
Laftit also placed emphasis on the fight against illegal transportaffirming the ministry’s commitment to ensuring order in the sector. Steps will be taken to integrate taxi services into regional legal and operational frameworks, based on a decree specific which gives regional authorities the power to regulate the sector.
Furthermore, the ministry is implementing training programs for the chauffeursaimed at improving their skills and strengthening their professional commitment. A system facilitating filing complaints and comments is also planned, to improve responsiveness to the concerns of citizens.
