In an electric market in sharp decline in November, the new R5 stands out by taking the lead in the ranking.

The French market continues to fall. For the seventh consecutive month, the balance sheet is in the red. In November, registrations fell by 12.7%, to 133,324 new passenger cars. Proof that demand is at half mast, compared to the average of the last ten years, the decline is 11.5%.

Electrics are falling even more than the overall market. With 23,256 vehicles, their balance sheet fell by 24.4%. The anticipated reduction in the amounts of the ecological bonus, effective from December 2, may have boosted orders at the end of November. But no deliveries yet.

The comparison, however, is made with a very high month of November 2023, when electric cars reached 20% market share. At the time, the imminent end of the bonus on many models, due to the implementation of the eco-score, had accelerated sales, particularly on the MG 4, Tesla Model 3 and Dacia Spring. Tesla's balance sheet has also been halved in one year.

Renault, on the other hand, is celebrating. Its electric sales soar by 77%, thanks to the launch of the R5. After filling the garages in October (and registering a lot of examples for them), the Losange began delivering to customers. 3,316 R5s were registered in November. The city car thus takes the lead in the electric ranking, and even climbs to 7th in the ranking of vehicles for all energies combined.

Obviously, the whole question is whether this situation will continue. The brand initially has numerous orders to fulfill, those placed since the end of May. We saw a similar situation at the start of the school year, with the thunderous entry of the electric C3 into the ranking, Citroën having delivered a large number of vehicles taken with social leasing. In November, the C3 slipped to 3rd place on the electric podium, behind the Tesla Model Y, which still sold 3,175 copies, an almost stable result in one year.

It thus does significantly better than the Renault Scénic, whose beginnings remain sluggish. In November, 1,070 examples were registered, three times less than the Model Y. The Peugeot 208, which was a hit in the first half thanks to social leasing, was only 5th in November.
