Jakob Chychrun traded: David Perron to Ottawa

The Ottawa Senators do anything.

They “give” Jacob Chychrun to the Capitals for Nick Jensen and a 3rd round pick in 2026. Remember that the Senators had sacrificed a 1st round pick and two 2nd round picks for Chychrun in 2023. A little over a year later, they traded him for “peanuts”.

The Senators also signed David Perron for two years and $4 million per year.

Chychrun, 26, is in the final season of a six-year, $27.6 million contract he signed with the Arizona Coyotes in November 2018 and was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season.

The 6-foot-2 left-handed defenseman played in all 82 games last season, recording 14 goals and 41 points.

Ottawa acquired Chychrun from the Coyotes in March 2023 for a draft pick. Drafted 16th overall by the Coyotes in 2016, Chychrun has scored 76 goals and 216 points in 467 career games split between the Coyotes and Senators.

Perron is a 35-year-old forward. He played last season with the Detroit Red Wings, scoring 17 goals and amassing 47 points in 76 games.

The 6-foot winger is coming off a two-year, $9.5 million contract he signed with the Red Wings in July 2022.

Drafted 26th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2007, Perron has 310 goals and 768 points in 1,131 career games with the Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights and Red Wings.

Perron helped the Blues win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2019 during his third stint with the team, scoring seven goals and 16 points in 26 playoff games.
