The National Arena, located in Pikine, a suburb of Dakar, is today hosting the highly anticipated battle royal between Modou Lo from the Rock Énergie team and Siteu from the Lansar team. This Sunday marks the day of truth for these two behemoths of Senegalese wrestling.
At Parcelles Assainies, stronghold of Modou Lo, and at Diamaguène, residence of Siteu, the atmosphere was peaceful and serene, if we rely on the enthusiasm generated by the supporters of both camps.
At unit 10 of Parcelles Assainies, at Modou Kharagne Lo, the atmosphere was friendly. A large number of supporters were gathered in front of the wrestler’s house. On the first floor, on the balcony, some held up a poster bearing the image of their champion, accompanied by the message: “Moytoulma Gauche bi”, meaning “Be careful of his left fist”, renowned for its power. A way of warning the opponent.
In the crowd, we could see young people, adults and elderly people who came to support their wrestler. Some performed “Bakk” steps, the traditional dance of wrestlers, for fun, while others jostled under the surveillance of the police, who ensured security.
Momo, a fan who preferred to keep his wrestler’s identity secret, encouraged a peaceful and respectful fight: “I encourage both wrestlers to play fair with mutual respect. Let everyone keep in mind that the ties that unite them go beyond this fight. May the best win,” he said.
The same atmosphere reigned in the streets of Diamaguene, Siteu’s stronghold. His image, accompanied by the slogan “Future King of Arenas”, proudly took pride of place. Fan confidence was at its peak. The latter are more than determined to see the crown return to Diamaguene this evening.
“Situ and Modou are brothers. Although we hope the crown returns to Diamaguene, we ask supporters to remain peaceful. We want to accompany our wrestler in complete peace and return with victory, without fanfare,” insisted a Siteu supporter.
There are only a few hours left to find out who will be the future King of the Arena. Will Modou Lo succeed in retaining his crown, or will he be dethroned by the young Siteu, in search of the throne?
