According to a witness met by TVA Nouvelles, two vehicles were traveling at very high speed and appeared to be racing.

On board the Mercedes C-43 where the person was found lifeless was also a teenager who was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the car apparently fled before the arrival of emergency services, TVA Nouvelles learned. Surveillance cameras reportedly captured him in the middle of a hit-and-run on foot.

Another Mercedes was found about a hundred meters away, also damaged by the accident. No one was on board when first responders arrived.

“These are vehicles that are currently popular for vehicle theft, but they are also high-end vehicles that can offer quite exceptional road performance,” explained Roger Ferland, former investigator for the Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ).

“These races are done on specific circuits, they are not done in an urban environment as we are seeing at the moment,” he recalled.

Collision investigation police officers went to the scene to shed light on the causes and circumstances of the accident. An investigation was launched by the SQ’s major crimes section.

The highway ramp near the event was closed indefinitely.
