The Lévis City Police Department (SPVL) arrested a man who allegedly committed several thefts in businesses on Monday.

The 38-year-old suspect has been active four times in the Saint-Jean-Chrysostome area. Each time, he entered a commercial building with a bladed weapon or a pistol to steal a sum of money before fleeing.

“We took this case very seriously. There was a significant mobilization of patrol officers and investigators to lead to the arrest of the individual,” explains SPVL spokesperson Véronique Blouin.

The police handcuffed the 30-year-old at his home and searched his home.

Other cases

The arrest of the alleged repeat robber has helped to solve two other cases of robbery that occurred in Quebec in recent weeks.

“It is possible that he was involved in other events in recent weeks, so the investigation is continuing,” said the Lévis police spokesperson.

Known to the police

The 38-year-old man who was arrested is from Lévis. He is said to have a criminal history and is known to law enforcement.

He remained in custody following his arrest and is expected to appear at the Quebec courthouse on Tuesday on charges of robbery, carrying a weapon with criminal intent and wearing a disguise with criminal intent.

If the SPVL is able to link it to other cases of attempted thefts in businesses, other charges could be added.
