Nine Liberal MPs call for ‘immediate’ caucus meeting

This is a race that the Liberal Party of Canada should not have lost.writes the instigator of the process, Alberta MP George Chahal, in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by Radio-Canada. It was sent last Friday to all Liberal MPs and to the caucus chair, Brenda Shanahan.

The diagnosis of the signatories is severe. Many Canadians who supported us no longer support us, they no longer listen.we can read in the letter whose existence had first been revealed by the Globe and Mail.

If we claim to listen, then our public responses are disconnected from reality.

For these signatories, Toronto–St. Paul’s voters have sent a message to the government. They also believe a family discussion is needed. The defeat in the Toronto riding on June 24, held by the Liberal Party of CanadaPLC for over 30 years, has shaken the columns of the liberal temple. And more than a week after the results were counted, no caucus meeting has been confirmed for the moment.

Behind the scenes, Liberal elected officials say they are surprised that no meeting is yet scheduled before the one already planned for the end of the summer.

Trudeau has no intention of leaving

A Liberal MP publicly called for Justin Trudeau to step down (new window)while others did so under the cover of anonymity (new window).

Former Environment Minister Catherine McKenna also called on the Liberal leader to leave. (new window)last week.

But Justin Trudeau insists: he has no intention of leaving his post. (new window)Officials from the Prime Minister’s Office have been making rounds of calls to the caucus in recent days to hear the grievances of Liberal MPs and find a way forward.

Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party is still about twenty points behind Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives in national polls, and still does not seem able to turn the tide.
