CF Montreal was looking to return to winning ways after a heavy defeat (4 to 1) against the Colorado Rapids last week, Saturday against the Philadelphia Union at Stade Saputo.

And that’s exactly what Laurent Courtois’ men managed to do, winning by a score of 4 to 2. After being behind twice rather than once on the scoreboard, they had to wait for the last minute of regulation time to see the Montrealers obtain their first lead of the game.

It was Dominik Iankov who gave his team the victory. After receiving a pass from Raheem Edwards, the Bulgarian made a superb move at the edge of the penalty area before sending a sharp low shot that left no chance for goalkeeper Andrew Rick.

Josef Martinez, who played in attack for the Montreal club, sounded the revolt of his team by equalizing with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half. On a corner kick taken by Bryce Duke, the 31-year-old athlete flew into the air to head the ball home and equalize.

Moreover, Duke was visibly in great form since it was he who leveled the chances at 2-2 in the second period. Once again, the midfielder tried to reach Martinez on a free kick, but the ball, against all expectations, managed to find its way into the goal.

Ruan scored only the last goal of the game for Montreal. Quinn Sullivan and Jesus Bueno provided the visitors’ replies.

Thanks to this gain, Montreal is in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with 22 points. Iankov’s teammates will face New York City FC on Wednesday.
