Ambassador Gabriel Lüchinger visited China on 28 June at the invitation of Beijing for an exchange and debriefing of the Bürgenstock conference on peace in Ukraine. The head of the International Security Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) was received by Li Hui, the Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs, who plays a key role in Chinese mediation efforts between Ukraine and Russia. The two men had last met in Brussels in March. Despite Swiss insistence, China had declined the invitation to the summit on 15 and 16 June on the pretext that Russia was not present. The meeting, which brought together nearly 60 heads of state and government, resulted in the publication of a joint communiqué but without commitment to a second meeting.
