After experiencing a huge moment in the history of French basketball last year but also yesterday, during which 3 French people were called up in the top 6 of the 2024 Draft, Victor Wembanyama – the first choice of the 2023 Draft – is not I’m not satisfied. For the rookie of the year, France can still claim to be at the top for several years.

Victor Wembanyama has never been a talker. When he speaks, particularly on the subject of the evolution and future of basketball in France, he is very ambitious. And if this selection of a new tricolor in first place in the 2024 Draft is simply historic, it is not enough for Wemby, who thinks that France can still provide first Draft choices for years to come .

Victor Wembanyama on the Draft : “A lot of pride, I stayed awake of course, but my first impression is that it’s not yet enough for French basketball. We can be number 1, three years in a row, why not 4.”@TrashTalk_fr pic.twitter.com/O5TwVU4mJh

Next year ? Nolan Traoré is obviously in the race for pole position. The fight promises to be difficult, because the American Cooper Flagg is seen as a prospect of enormous size and incredible talent, but the meteoric progression of the leader from INSEP and Saint-Quentin can continue next season and make toggle ranking. For the year 2026, we will have to monitor the evolution of Jonas Boulefaa, also a resident of INSEP, but also other promising players like Soren Bracq (Cholet Basket, well). The deadlines are distant, a lot of things can still happen, but French basketball is at the highest level of training. And Wemby intends to highlight it as much as possible.
