The Swiss women’s team remains undefeated after 7 matches at the European Championships in Lohja, in the south of Finland. Skip Silvana Tirinzoni and her partners won 10-4 against Turkey and 7-5 against Sweden.
After 2 defeats at the start of the tournament, Turkey had 3 successes. But the Swiss quartet stifled any desire from the start: after 3 ends, the score was already 7-0! Title holders, the CC Aarau players then faced Sweden, the only other nation to have won their 6 initial matches. The Swiss won this shock at the top 7-5, thanks to a three in the 5th end.
Already qualified for the semi-finals which will take place Thursday evening, the Swiss curlers must still play two matches in this round-robin, Wednesday against Hungary and Thursday morning against Estonia.
Men crush England
The Swiss men’s team, for its part, reacted perfectly after experiencing its first two defeats in the Round Robin on Monday. Skip Yannick Schwaller’s CC Geneva crushed England 11-1 for their only meeting scheduled for Tuesday. Still looking for a first victory, the English gave up after 6 ends.
