In Lausanne, the future station square will be 75% dedicated to pedestrians

The last development project for the Place de la Gare in Lausanne dates back more than eight years. Since then, the CFF project has continued to fall behind schedule, precisely 12 years. The end of the work is now expected for 2037, and the city authorities must be patient for the part, on the surface, which concerns them. This Tuesday, Natacha Litzistorf, municipal official in charge of housing and architecture, had a smile when presenting the contours of the future Place de la Gare.

“Here we are. Finally,” she said discreetly to Romain Latapie, project manager, before opening the press conference. This is because the issue is particularly thorny. Not only are the parties to interact around the “Pôle Gare” perimeter numerous and, in addition, the timetable remains unclear. “Despite these difficulties, we must move forward,” testifies the elected official. From now on, we all focus on the reference plan which allows us to establish a certain order of action to follow for our work. However, we remain dependent on the part of the CFF, which concerns the basement of the station, given that the role of the city is, in short, to come and lay over the final covering.
