Casio Computer Co. Ltd. announced the release of the latest addition to the G-SHOCK family of shockproof watches. The new DW-5000R recreates with meticulous fidelity the very first G-SHOCK launched in 1983, the DW-5000C.
The launch of the G-SHOCK in 1983 ushered in a whole new genre of ruggedness in wristwatch design, bringing watches into demanding environments such as construction sites and intense sports. Casio has continued to provide innovative products and services, changing people’s lives and making the world a better place. Casio returned to the origins of G-SHOCK, which created a whole new market category for watches, with the desire to see the G-SHOCK brand once again create a new category of watches.
The result, the DW-5000R, a more faithful reproduction of the DW-5000C than any other limited edition of the past, establishes this recreation of the very first G-SHOCK as a standard in the Casio line. The strap replicates the original design of the DW-5000C, not only in terms of length, but also in the irregularity of the area around the strap holes and even the position of the dimples. The upper surface, which displays the letters “PROTECTION” and “G-SHOCK”, features the flat design of the original bezel, and the red, blue and yellow colors replicate the design of the original dial.
The emphasis on evoking the look of the original extends to the subtlest details, including the stainless steel center case and screw-down case back engraved with the phrase “Shock Resistant.” to shocks). The DW-5000R is even produced at Yamagata Casio – G-SHOCK’s parent factory – where the original model was created.
While extremely faithful to the original, this model has also been updated with contemporary features such as high-brightness LED backlighting and a bezel and strap made with organic resin, a material believed to help reduce the impact on the environment.
