At least 15 police officers were killed in attacks on Sunday targeting Orthodox churches and a synagogue in Dagestan, in the Russian Caucasus, regional leader Sergei Melikov said.
“More than 15 police officers were victims of the terrorist act” in Dagestan, said Mr. Melikov, in a video published overnight on Telegram. They “protected the civilian inhabitants at the cost of their lives,” he stressed. The authorities’ initial toll reported eight police officers and a priest killed in the attacks.
The anti-terrorist operation launched in the Russian republic of Dagestan has ended, the Russian Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) said on Monday.
“Due to the neutralization of threats to the life and health of citizens, it was decided to end the anti-terrorist operation” in Dagestan from 05:15 GMT, said the committee, cited by the security agencies. Russian press.
