During the show JiCjournalist Renaud Lavoie also spoke with host Jean-Charles Lajoie on this subject, specifying that he had questioned the vice-president and director of hockey operations of the NHL, Colin Campbell. Currently, the skater who instigated a fight receives 17 minutes of punishment, including minor and major penalties, as well as a 10-minute misconduct.
Also, Lavoie asked Campbell if this regulation still has its reason for being. The number of fights is not necessarily decreasing, especially after body checks that are sometimes unfair, sometimes not. For example, the case of Canadian defender Mike Matheson, who came to the defense of Justin Barron, victim of contact from Jacob Trouba, of the New York Rangers, on October 22, was mentioned.
“It seems a little old school. This type of reaction following legal contact should not occur. There should be an instigator punishment every time. If the other team deems a response necessary, they should do so legally by inviting an opposing player to throw down their gloves,” replied the leader of the circuit.

During his interview at JiCLavoie added that Campbell said he was in agreement with the famous regulation, “contrary to what many general managers think” and that he added that it was he who decided “and not others.”
