Walks, escape games, astronomy, exhibitions…

The ULiège museums await you this summer with a number of discoveries! Do you prefer walks, observing the sky, or even books? We have something to surprise you!

An astonishing and fun photo exhibition

Photographer artist Harry Fayt worked with Professor Sylvie Gobert to create a unique exhibition that highlights maritime professions in an artistic and somewhat offbeat way, in the hall of the Institute of Zoology: Welcome to Stareso. The artist and scientists therefore imagined a series of photographs featuring models underwater, in apnea, imitating scenes of land-based occupations. Also see all these amazing photos on the artist’s website.

At the Aquarium-Museum

If you want to learn more about the mysteries of the oceans, the Aquarium-Museum has designed an animation for you ! Come explore the aquatic world and ask the host all your questions. Children (from 5 years old) or adults, enjoy this activity every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon during the summer holidays.

If you are a fan of (very) beautiful animal photos, don’t miss the exhibition Great Bear Rainforest by Ian McAllister: impressive images!

Marie Curie needs help at the Maison de la Science!

Ready for a escape game ? You are transported back to 1920. Marie Curie is about to take a decisive step forward in her research into radioactivity. She absolutely must acquire a gram of radium, a rare substance, difficult to obtain… and excessively expensive! Your mission is simple: you have one hour to explore the different rooms of the museum, solve the puzzles they contain, and collect the precious funds necessary to continue its work.

Observe the sky…and the shooting stars

The House of Science has had an impressive dome for some time planetarium. Come immerse yourself in the virtual celestial vault! Animations and videos devoted to various themes, from the cycle of the seasons to the constellations, including space exploration, invite you on a journey and the spectacular discovery of our solar system.

The Astronomical Society of Liège continues to organize during the summer the monthly planetarium sessions at the Cointe observatory. Very many public sky observations are open to the public at La Fosse (route Napoléon in Manhay). The La Fosse observatory brings together amateur astronomers and those curious about the sky who wish to observe the celestial vault together during all or part of the night. When the weather permits, you can see the Milky Way, which many city dwellers cannot see due to light pollution. The observation sessions will be particularly numerous between August 10 and 14, for the nights of the shooting stars.

Numerous artistic and scientific walks

Summer is undoubtedly a privileged time for walks.

Until September 15, the Open-Air Museum is offering the exhibition “Fig.” by Éva Évrard : a series of unique interventions, which integrate monumental drawings meticulously cut from large sheets of paper into the glass surfaces of different buildings. The originality of the proposal lies as much in the almost sculptural work of the paper as in its placement in the chosen places and in the motifs represented. The route is signposted from the reception building.

The Open Air Museum also offers 5 artistic and architectural discovery circuits at Sart Tilman in guides to download. For the little ones, a game booklet is available in the display in front of the reception building, near the large roundabout.

Other walks, these scientific ones, are offered by Réjouisciences and the Paleontology laboratory: The Fossils in town notebooks now concern 23 cities!

Another walk focuses on the light pollution and its impacts on wildlife and humans.

There Walk from one museum to another invites you to discover traces of Liège’s rich industrial past between the Transport Museum and the Maison de la Métallurgie. Go and explore these museums, their rich collections… and their neighborhoods! And take the opportunity to admire the exhibition of Giovanni GelmiSeresian artist, who presents his paintings and sculptures at the MMIL.

Finally, a metal ride invites you to discover metals used by architects and artists in an educational and active way. Over time and urban heritage, the walk oscillates between metal and metallurgy, between traditional processes and innovations, between history, art and technique.

Gustave Ruhl in the spotlight at the Wittert Museum

Throughout his life, Gustave Ruhl (1856-1929) never stopped studying architectural heritage and devoted numerous works to the cities of Verviers and Liège. He bequeathed a very large part of his property and documentation to the University. The exhibition Vision(s). Gustave Ruhl, Liège and Verviers in the 18th centurye century allows you to discover a selection of these pieces (notes, sketches, plans, engravings, photographs, etc.) and a holographic version of the famous model of the City of Liège around 1730.

At our friends at Trinkhall

The remarkable Trinkhall Muséum, partner of the Museum and Cultural Centre, offers two exhibitions. THE Modesties of André Wostijn. André Wostijn engraves the plaque as we trace our route. The furrows, light or firm, are the trace of our uncertainties, our hesitations or our clear advances, of all our side steps, of our journeys – distant, close – and our feedback.

The exhibition At work questions the work of art: Does it exist? And how ? Is it an object, an imprint, a trace: things and signs, moments assembled? Where is a work of art lost? Is it more – or less – than the paths that made it possible?

And books for the whole summer

Are you looking for a good novel to slip into your suitcases, or a fascinating essay or a bit of poetry? More than 80 members of the university community present their favorites in the file Readings for the summer. Choose from 113 recommended books.

And why not discover literary works of our Alumni ? Many authors, current members of the University or graduates, publish novels and collections. There are some great discoveries to be made there.

Have a great summer with museums and university cultural actors!
