The SNCF unions are calling for an indefinite strike from December 11, 2024. They are protesting against the opening of regional lines to competition as well as the dismantling of the company's rail freight. Disruptions could begin as early as November 21.
A railway workers' strike: a nightmare for users who will be on vacation for Christmas… The fears of many travelers could become reality after the announcement of a renewable strike starting on December 11: “There comes a time when we get a little fed up. We understand everyone's problems, but Christmas is important. We feel like we experience this every year”deplores an SNCF user.
After a first day of action announced for November 21, a second is planned for December 11. It will be renewable every 24 hours. The pressure will be maximum from the four unions representing the SNCF.
At the heart of the conflict, the restructuring of the goods transport branch of the French railway company: Fret SNCF. The European Commission accuses the company of having received 5.3 billion euros in public aid deemed illegal. A sum almost impossible to repay. To get out of this, the State therefore negotiated a restructuring.
