Faced with telephone scams, the British operator O2 counterattacks with a clever idea. “Daisy,” a slightly talkative AI-generated grandmother, chats with the scammers to waste their time.
He who thinks he takes is taken. Across the Channel, a telephone operator had an idea worthy of the best Sherlock Holmes scenarios to trap the scammers who operate by telephone! Operator O2 featured in a YouTube video “Daisy”, which describes itself as “scammers worst nightmare“. Her goal? To make them waste as much time as possible! But this grandmother with laughing eyes and graying hair is not quite a “nanny” like the others. In fact, she was generated by a artificial intelligence, created by the operator.
A program in place 24 hours a day
“While they're busy talking to me, they can't scam you“, explains “Daisy” in the video published by O2. In a press release published on November 14, the operator assures that its program is “indistinguishable from a real person” et “able to interact with scammers in real time“, without intervention from its creators, “24 hours a day“.
So, does it work? If the video published on YouTube offers an overview of the artificial intelligence's exchanges with a few exasperated interlocutors, the press release specifies that “Daisy”managed to keep many scammers in communication for 40 minutes at a time“.
The operator points out that its program was created following a study revealing that 7 out of 10 Britons would like to take revenge on scammers who tried to trap them or their loved ones, but that the majority do not want to waste their time by tackling it themselves.
