Éric Ciotti caused a shock wave by revealing his intention to form an alliance between his party, The Republicans, and that of Jordan Bardella, the National Rally. But while the party leaders have mainly condemned the approach of the president of LR, the activist base is more divided. This is what emerges from our Ifop survey for the JDD: 54% of LR supporters support the electoral alliance proposed by Éric Ciotti, while 46% are opposed to it.

The right-wing activist base draws a less rigid line of demarcation than the “feathered hats”, who almost unanimously criticized the Nice initiative. “Ciotti has cut the Gordian knot,” analyzes Frédéric Dabi. It is clearly aimed at the right-wing people, who today vote massively for the RN. »

A tactical choice which does not surprise the Ifop boss. From 2017, after the defeat of François Fillon, internal Republican polls showed that voters were increasingly in favor of a rapprochement with the RN. A junction with the nationalists initiated by Ciotti during the 2022 presidential campaign, when the one who was at the head of the right-wing primary announced that he would vote for Éric Zemmour against Emmanuel Macron.
