It’s a bit of a Star Academy French-speaking… without Nikos Aliagas or cameras. At the beginning of December, for the second season of Emergences Musicales, nine young musicians will join their “castle” – the Caux Palace, perched on the heights of Montreux. For six days and seven nights, they will be fed and housed there and will work hard. A musical “bootcamp” supervised by star coaches: the French-speaking pop duo Aliose, the musician Alex Finkin and, as godfather, the French singer-songwriter Gauvain Sers. Concerts will punctuate this week of residency, crowned by a final show on Saturday evening to reveal to the public the creations of the “students”.
Launched by the Montreux Cultural Season, this school festival is a direct counterpart to the Rencontres d’Astaffort, an event inaugurated 30 years ago in the southwest by Francis Cabrel, in support of new talents in French-speaking song – the singer will also be there in Montreux. “Young artists are often very isolated, left to their own devices, locked in their room to compose,” notes Pierre Smets, administrator of La Saison culturelle. The idea was to break these solitudes.”
