Updating the CAQ Health Plan would not provide concrete results to improve the health network, judges the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ).

The union reacted Thursday evening to the CAQ’s announcement on this project, which aims to offer support to all Quebecers by the summer of 2026. It considers that the progress proposed by the minister seems to favor the strengthening of the private network and not that of the public. These proposals will not help stop long waits for front-line care and emergency rooms that are still overcrowded, according to the Federation.

The FIQ spoke of “timid progress”.

“Its measures are far from corresponding to the reality experienced on the ground by healthcare professionals,” declared Julie Bouchard, president of the FIQ, in the press release. These announcements distract from the real issues.”

She particularly highlighted work overload, difficult working conditions, job cuts and even the increase in violence against health professionals.

Mme Bouchard also proposed to the minister to put in place “effective” solutions, such as “the establishment of safety ratios […]fill vacant positions and guarantee equitable access to care for all.
