AAlexander De Croo said on Friday that his party, the Open VLD, was willing to “listen” to the parties currently negotiating to form a federal government, if this would help the country produce a budget on time.
“It’s mid-November. After five months of negotiations, we have no budget, no reforms in progress, but for me, this is the priority,” declared the Prime Minister in current affairs. He was questioned by Belgian journalists upon his arrival at the European summit in Budapest. “If we can help in some way to ensure that Belgium doesn’t lose a year and can have a budget, we will definitely listen. »
Wasting time is in no one’s interest, he said. However, “listening” does not mean that his party will necessarily join a government, he clarified. “We are not in demand and are instead adopting a wait-and-see position. »
Alexander De Croo speaks as the trainer and president of the N-VA, Bart De Wever, invited the Flemish liberals for an interview. The Open VLD could replace the Flemish socialists in a future coalition with the MR, the Engagés, the CD&V and the N-VA, if the Arizona formula (with Vooruit) cannot be put back on track in the coming days.
