Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump affirm their desire to “work for the return of peace and stability” during their first exchange

The two leaders spoke on the phone on Wednesday, the day after the victory of the Republican candidate for the White House.

After having rubbed shoulders between May 2017 and January 2021, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump will meet again. The two leaders expressed, Wednesday, November 6, their “desire to work for the return of peace and stability” facing the “major ongoing international crises” during their first telephone exchange after the victory of the Republican candidate at the White House, the Elysée announced.

During this twenty-minute exchange, which Emmanuel Macron's entourage judges “very good” et “constructive”the French head of state “Emphasized the importance of Europe's role and told President Trump that he was willing to continue this conversation and work together on these issues”notably Ukraine and the Middle East, “when he takes office” end of January 2025, details the presidency.

According to those close to the Head of State, the conversation was warm, very frank and marked by a form of closeness. Donald Trump questioned the President of the Republic at length on his vision of each of the crises mentioned, and on 's vision of Europe's priorities. The American president has not expressed an opinion that he would not have expressed publicly, according to an Elysee source.
