“It’s a direct attack on purchasing power”

The socialist union denounces Tuesday the note from trainer Bart De Wever, who submitted his resignation to the King but obtained a one-week deadline to carry out additional consultations with a view to forming a federal government. The FGTB considers its content, described as the “De Wever-Bouchez plan”, as a “direct attack on purchasing power” among other things. The union organization is considering actions in the coming weeks.

The FGTB explains that 95% of the budgetary effort detailed in the note falls on pensions, social security, wage indexation and public services, compared to only 5% on large assets. The union believes that this plan is also an attack on social protection and working conditions, and undermines the principles of social dialogue.

Bart de Wever’s Super-note worries this economist: “€500 difference? This will lead to a reduction in the highest replacement allowances”

“Vooruit rightly asserted that the super-rating remained unbalanced and therefore did not constitute a basis for negotiation for the government,” adds the socialist union. “It is surprising to see that parties like Les Engagés and the CD&V, which claim to defend social issues, do not arrive at the same conclusion. »

The FGTB refuses that workers pay “the price of budgetary constraints” and rejects a questioning of the automatic indexation of salaries. “Moreover, the majority of the population is in favor of a tax on large fortunes,” she adds. “It is becoming increasingly clear that the De Wever-Bouchez plan is no longer just a project, but the core of a possible coalition agreement between the center-right and the conservative right. »

The union organization announces its intention to “move up a gear” in raising awareness among workers and the general public. She plans to take action soon.
