The Union of Healthcare Professionals of Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec, affiliated with the FIQ, denounces an unhealthy work climate within the La Tuque operating theater, which is currently causing its temporary closure.
For several weeks, even months, the nursing staff of the La Tuque operating theater have been denouncing an unhealthy climate.
Several members of the medical staff have also left the operating room, which is now causing service disruptions, including a temporary closure of the operating room.
The Professional Care Union of Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec denounces the absence of concrete actions from the employer to help the situation.
Nurses are therefore sounding the alarm so that there can be change.
“What we deplore is that, in our opinion, the employer has not taken all reasonable means to put an end to this unhealthy climate. These are very serious obligations incumbent on the employer according to labor standards. It is difficult to explain the fact that it stretches over time,” indicates the interim president of the FIQ-SPSMCQ, Patricia Mailhot.
The CIUSSS tries to be reassuring by saying that service corridors have been established with the Center-de-la-Mauricie Hospital and the Regional Affiliated University Hospital Center (CHAUR) for surgeries and other semi-urgent interventions.
However, these non-urgent surgeries will be postponed. Each file is analyzed individually.
For pregnant women, the CIUSSS MCQ says that “as a preventive measure, mothers whose due date is coming soon are transferred to Shawinigan in anticipation of their delivery in order to ensure the availability of an operating theater in case of cesarean section.
The causes of this unhealthy climate which persists within the operating room of La Tuque Hospital, however, remain unclear.
