The streets of San Francisco are no livelier than usual on this election morning. The first offices open around 7 a.m. but a good number of citizens have already made their choice by mail, California being one of the states sending a bulletin to residents by post. In a quiet little street in the Mission Bay neighborhood, Burt has just made his choice, sticker I voted on the chest. His choice? The Kamala Harris – Tim Walz ticket, but without being obvious either, he specifies: “I am not particularly excited about the Democratic candidate. But Donald Trump is so much worse, I’m disgusted that he can run again when he tried to steal the election four years ago.
If San Francisco is a proud bastion of the progressive left, Donald Trump still has some support there. As if to prove it, Burt answers his phone: “It was a friend I helped register to vote,” he announces as he hangs up. He has just acquired American citizenship. He will vote for the Republican candidate. He grew up in a war zone and Donald Trump’s “strongman” profile speaks to him.”
