A child around 11 years old died after being hit by a truck at the intersection of rue Bernard and avenue du Parc in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, in Montreal, Monday evening.

Several citizens alerted authorities regarding the accident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m.

According to preliminary information, the vehicle was heading south on Avenue du Parc.

The truck driver, a 28-year-old man, allegedly hit the child at the pedestrian crossing when he tried to make a turn onto Bernard Street, informed the media relations officer at the City of Montreal Police Department ( SPVM) Mariane Allaire Morin.

The victim then found himself under the truck.

When rescuers arrived on scene, the child was in cardiorespiratory arrest.

He was transported to a hospital where his life was believed to be in danger.

A security perimeter was deployed at the scene of the accident. Investigators were also called to shed light on the circumstances of this event.
