“What happens in the voting booth stays in the voting booth.” This little sentence had the gift of irritating Republican voters, especially men. It is taken from a recent ad in favor of the Harris-Walz Democratic ticket entitled “Your Vote, Your Choice” and spoken by actress Julia Roberts. This video further crystallizes the polarization of this election, with a widening gap between the choices of women and that of men and which seems to intrude even into the marital home. Another spot playing on the same grounds was broadcast less than a week ago by The Lincoln Project, an organization founded by anti-Trump Republicans.
Michelle Obama and Liz Cheney had already led the charge recently, each implying in their own way that being married to a man who votes for Donald Trump does not automatically imply making the same choice. The country’s former first lady declared on October 26 that “your vote is a private matter, whatever the political opinions of your partner.”
