Since the start of the tripartite coalition between the social democrats, the Greens and the liberals at the end of December 2021, the AfD has attacked the government alliance, which it accuses of being incapable of leading the country. With the announcement of the explosion of the government coalition, the AfD therefore demands that the government table the question of confidence before the Bundestag as quickly as possible.

“Chancellor Scholz has lost the trust of the people for a long time and must pave the way for new elections, immediately. Therefore, the AfD parliamentary group is calling for the question of trust to be asked as early as next week. owes it to this country to leave power as quickly as possible.”said Alice Weidel is co-chair of the AfD.

AfD wants to toughen migration policy

It is especially in matters of migration policy and foreign policy that the AfD demands radical change. Like Donald Trump in the United States, the far-right party is leading campaigns against illegal immigration and open borders.

Tino Chrupalla, co-chairman of the AfD, said that in the upcoming election campaign the party will continue to focus mainly on the themes of asylum and immigration.

“We need to eliminate the pull factors of illegal immigration to social systems, to generalize benefits in kind rather than cash payments, to return criminals required to leave the territory and people who do not have no or no longer the right to asylum, to close borders, to leave the EU asylum system, as neighboring countries Poland and the Netherlands are already doing. insists Tino Chrupalla.

AfD against arms supplies to Ukraine

When Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj gave a speech in the German Bundestag in June 2024, the AfD parliamentary group refused to participate in this parliamentary session.

To achieve its goals, the far-right party is also campaigning towards traditional right-wing parties, namely the conservative CDU/CSU and the FDP, with a view to future collaboration.

The AfD is especially putting pressure on the Christian Democrats to abandon their categorical refusal to cooperate. But a coalition of the AfD with the Christian Democrats seems distant.

Just last year, AfD leader for the European elections, Maximilian Krah, declared that the CDU was the AfD’s main opponent and called for its “destruction”.

The party is radicalizing

The AfD has become radicalized since the last federal elections in September 2021. The far-right party has thus been placed under observation by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the German intelligence services. Just a few days ago, three members of this party were arrested for supporting a suspected far-right terrorist group.

New elections could therefore increase the influence of the AfD in federal politics. In the September 2021 elections, the party received 10% of the vote nationally. Today, opinion polls put him at around 17%.
