The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) announced, on Sunday in Doha, the launch of a cybersecurity strategy, covering, among other things, the establishment of a platform for exchanging information on cyber threats .
The launch of this strategy took place during a meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Cybersecurity of the GCC countries, also marked by the examination and approval of the recommendations of the commissions under the Committee as well as by the approval of the dates of the next Joint Gulf cybersecurity exercises, including the third exercise, scheduled for this month in Qatar.
Speaking on this occasion, the President of the Qatar Cybersecurity Agency, Abdulrahman Bin Ali AlFarahid AlMalki, reported a positive outcome in the development of the cyber space, marked by the deployment of technical and the development of the cybersecurity strategy, which will strengthen the GCC’s position in the field of cybersecurity internationally.
The official also highlighted the challenges that persist in the field of artificial intelligence, citing as an example identity theft and fraud which can harm vital sectors.
For his part, the Secretary General of the GCC praised the efforts of the Council countries in favor of the development of cybersecurity at the global level, which earned the five of the six member countries their classification as leaders in the matter in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI).
