Dakar, June 6 (APS) – The Lions of Senegal were forced to a draw by the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo, 1-1, in a match played for the third day of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers 2026.

Ismaïla Sarr opened the scoring for the Lions in the 45the minute of this match played at the Abdoulaye-Wade stadium in Diamniadio, near Dakar.

Kamala Mayele Fiston, who entered the game, equalized for the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 85the.

According to the Congolese coach, Sébastien Desabre, this draw is a “satisfactory” result for his team.

”We drew away against a very good, committed and strong opponent. But we will have to win on the way back, if we want to hope for anything in these qualifications which will be long and fiercely contested,” he said.

Senegal’s national coach, Alioune Cissé, hoped for a victory for his 100e match on the Lions bench.

”Unfortunately, we did not win this match. We could have done it if we had been more efficient in front of goals,” he said.

Senegal, however, has the necessary arguments to qualify at the end of this “mini-championship”, he assured, promising that the Lions will “pull themselves together” for the next match, against Mauritania, on Saturday next.
