Ndioma Kane and Al Ahly confirm their hegemony by winning the champion title

The Al Ahly team wins the FIBA Africa Women’s League (AWBL) Zone 5 qualifiers. In the final played this Saturday, November 2 at New Amaan Indoor Stadium Hall, Ndioma Kane and her teammates defeated Rwanda Energy Group (93-68).

The Egyptians won the trophy without any setback during these qualifiers for the next African Women’s Basketball Club Cup. After dominating the group stage with three victories in as many outings, Al Ahly successively dismissed the Tanzanians of Vijana in the quarter-final and the Kenyans of KPA in the semi-final. By facing the Rwandans in the final, “Didi” and her team again managed to make the difference, even if this meeting was very difficult compared to the others. Because at halftime, there was only one point difference in favor of Al Ahly (39-38).

On the return, Al Ahly tried to widen the gap in the third quarter in order to avoid a difficult end to the match against a stubborn Rwandan team who, despite the defeat, provided a good performance. At the end of the third quarter, it was the Egyptian team which won again with a four-point lead (64-60). Everything happened in the fourth quarter, because Al Ahly managed to destroy the hopes of the Rwandans who were hoping to reverse the situation, which was not the case. Ndioma and his teammates won by 25 points and finished the tournament in the best possible way.

Al Ahly and REG are qualified for the African Women’s Club Cup which will take place in Senegal, organized by ASC Ville de Dakar. The competition takes place from December 6 to 15, 2024.
