Public transport users in greater Montreal had a difficult day on Friday, with long service interruptions which paralyzed a good portion of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) and which are still paralyzing the green line of the metro.

Operations between Angrignon and Berri-UQAM stations were paused at 10:20 a.m. due to water infiltration, according to information from the Société de transport de Montréal (STM). Around 4 p.m., the STM was still not able to establish a time to restart service since the water continued to accumulate.

“There was a break in the City of Westmount’s water main early this morning near the Lionel-Groulx station,” confirmed Amélie Regis, corporate advisor for the STM, by email on Friday.

Corrugated panels were installed during the first water infiltration. However, “these did not hold,” she said.

A shuttle service has been set up between the Lionel-Groulx and Angrignon stations. According to several users on X, service is also slow between Beaudry and Honoré-Beaugrand stations, located east of the green line.

The situation also caused a service interruption on the same portion of the green line at 6 a.m. Service was able to resume around 7 a.m.

The interruption, which extended from the Panama station to the Central Station, was justified by the weather conditions.

Normal service resumed in both directions shortly before 2 p.m.
