Combine historical depth and careful examination of political dynamics. This was the objective pursued by Karim Lasseb’s thesis, defended at the University of Lausanne under the direction of professors Oscar Mazzoleni and André Mach. Both a political scientist and historian, now an employee of the State of Vaud, Karim Lasseb focuses on the professionalization of urban executives in Switzerland, between 1945 and 2018. The cities of Zurich, Lausanne, Lucerne and Lugano are scrutinized to study the link between the remuneration of the function and the profile of elected officials over the long term. Professionalization has the particular effect of rejuvenating elected officials, who are more inclined to dedicate their careers exclusively to politics.
