Bernard Clerfayt: “We are ready to participate in a majority if we are invited to do so”

Bernard Clerfayt, outgoing mayor of the municipality of Schaerbeek, member of the DéFI party, was the guest of Bonjour Bruxelles this morning. He notably mentioned the negotiations in Schaerbeek.

On the name of the future mayor of Schaerbeek, which is the subject of heated debate in the various discussions, Bernard Clerfayt considers that “It’s not up to me to say who will be mayor, I need someone capable of bringing together a majority.” For the outgoing mayor, Hasan Koyuncu must give guarantees to his future partners on respecting the neutrality of the State. “We very clearly need declarations in this direction”recalled Bernard Clerfayt.

It is also necessary, according to Bernard Clerfayt, to build a stable majority, which for him means a majority of around thirty seats. After the big defeat of his list, Bernard Clerfayt nevertheless says he is ready to negotiate: “We are ready to participate in a majority if we are invited to do so.”

Bernard Clerfayt insists on the fact that it will take a clear project to enter a majority. It also underlines the need for guarantees on the functioning of the future majority. “We will have to make precise choices, activities, programs and projects that we can maintain.” Concerning the negotiations, Bernard Clerfayt recalls that they have still not formally started in Schaerbeek.

Concerning his place in the future majority, Bernard Clerfayt announces that he will not be an alderman, even if his list is part of the majority.
