COUNTERPOINT – The first weapon of the school remains that of knowledge and more than with incantatory words on secularism, the Minister of National Education, Anne Genetet is expected on an effective implementation of the “shock of knowledge”, promised he a year ago by Gabriel Attal.
One year after the assassination of Dominique Bernard, four years after that of Samuel Paty, the tributes are there to remind us of the murderous reality of Islamist ideology. Quite recently, in Tourcoing, the attack on a teacher who informed a student of the ban on wearing the veil demonstrates once again that the school is not this sanctuary protected against what is too often described as generic and modest “attacks on secularism”.
New Minister of National Education, Anne Genetet welcomes the decline in these acts. 110 recorded in September 2024 compared to 838 in September 2023. Who wouldn’t be happy about that? In the Tribune Sundayshe sees the effect of the ban on the abaya and the qamis decided by Gabriel Attal during the previous school year. If this is indeed the case, it is proof that a simple, clear decision with immediate effect is better than so many emphatic speeches on secularism.
